A truly riveting mystery. Could hardly put this book down. Burr is a high school classmate of mine, and he even inserted a segment into this story portraying me as the passenger with the stow away bird. Totally awesome individual, cannot wait for his third novel to be written and released. Jan Endsley, Eatonville, WA

I've never been on a cruise so this was one of those I'm not sure book. I was wrong. SO many surprises erupted during the story. This was a cruise ship and how so easily we can be taken in, even by terrorism. This terrorist was out for nothing but to murder as many people as he could on the ship.He appears to be well trained and as things first appear, he will accomplish just what he went out for. Assassination of the entire ship.

Then our hero enters, Brick Morgan. The author also takes you into the life "below deck" which is the crew members home during the cruise. Hot, Crowded, unclean and not at all a good place to live. A lot of crime goes on down there. The crew members are quite a way away from home and they try to find their own little cubby hole to live in. The author goes into detail about the huge machinery that powers the cruise ship for days and days. The passengers have no idea what is going on in the nooks and crannies of the ship, right under their noses. They continue to drink their cocktails and the servers keep on smiling as they serve the guests. While all of this is going on, the terrorist is plotting very carefully their demise. I was so intrigued by all the workings and the conditions of the ship. The author not only described the characters perfectly but the entire ship.. You wouldn't think of terrorism on a cruise ship, but as we see day to day in our lives, ti can happen any where.

Mr. Anderson wrote a fast paced book that kept you holding on to the book like you were holding on to the ship's rails during a storm. It was a good book and I plan on keeping this one to read again.

Even if you're not a cruiser, this might be a surprise reading on things that happen on a cruise ship that you never thought of, but might after you read it.

I was given a complimentary copy of the book, HIGH SEAS DARKNESS from the author, Burr B. Anderson for my view of the book. No other compensation took place.

Very exciting and a quick read. Extensive research and knowledge keeps this story moving and interesting. After being on several cruises, it opened my eyes as to what could happen when a small band of terrorist plot to kill as many Americans as possible on several cruise ships, which would be a larger disaster then 911 and cripple the cruise ship industry. Anderson's knowledge of the local west coast area and Hawaii makes it more personal to any of us living here, including restaurants, streets and buildings. Read how Brick Morgan uses his investigative skills and his relationships with others in his profession to help make decisions to uncover the terrorist and their plans. Some spicy moments keeps the story interesting. You don't want to put the book down. Nice job Burr Anderson. Can't wait for your next book.

I read this authors first book "The Drummer" and enjoyed it so much I was glad to see a second book coming from him. I like the fact that this crime drama fits with the current world climate and the political upheaval in the Unites States. It is well written and as the plot twists and turns I did not get lost. Character development was good and not too winded. I look forward to more from this excellent author.

BELIEVABLE fiction! This deliciously crafted story moves from one highly probable scenario to another - captivating the reader as we are taken from oval offices to private sleeping suites; from cruise ship engine rooms to terrorist hide-outs. Political and personal stories blend effortlessly to create non-stop intrigue. A great read.

A fascinating thriller taking place on a cruise ship involving international intrigue, politics, great characters, and amazing insight to life below the waterline where the crew lives. Once you start you won't want to put it down. I predict the lead character, Brick Morgan, will become the new Mitch Rapp.

Burr Anderson scores again with his latest novel, High Seas Darkness, a fast-paced page-turner ripped from today's headlines. As Islamic militants again prepare to unleash terror on America, this time the nation's lucrative cruise-line industry, former FBI and Interpol agent Brick Morgan stands in their way. With the assistance of a sexy cruise line security officer, a gifted computer genius with a stunning work ethic, and a sultry former Interpol colleague, he tracks clues that the weakened federal bureaucracy led by a naive President chooses to ignore. Will thousands more innocent Americans die before he can stop them? Find out in Anderson's second thriller that finds America once again on the brink of catastrophe.

A great summer read! The plot is fast moving but the details on the behind the scenes look at cruise ships is fascinating. You won't want to stop reading once you pick it up. I liked the authors first book, "The Drummer", but this book is even better. I hope the next book is well on its way to completion. I'm sure to pick it up as soon as it's available.

With a cruise in the near future, I enjoyed learning, I think, about what can go on below, above and beyond the decks of a cruise ship. Brick is my kind of hero! I especially loved the references to my home town, Tacoma, WA. Thanks, Burr, for a great read!

Great read. Didn't want it to end. Each chapter provided more intrigue than the last. Had to make myself put it down. Didn't know a great deal about the cruise industry before reading High Seas Darkness. WOW - does all of that really go on? Look forward to more of this authors work and Brick Morgan.

This novel could have easily been broken up into three or four novels based on the plot lines. It's a fast read and the action never ceases. You'll be wondering what happens next. Very nice job, Mr. Anderson - I can't wait for the next one.

Anderson's character,Brick Morgan, is the new Travis McGee of the high seas. John McDonald would be proud indeed. tightly drawn characters, fastidious research, and intricate detail make this a fascinating read. High Seas Darkness is a must read for those who love to cruise, or for those who are planning a cruise. ENJOY!

After having been on several cruises, I didn't think there would be any suprises in this book, but it was full of them. The story is about terrorism on a cruise ship and about how vulnerable we are to that kind of attack. A commited terrorist on the ship is determined to kill as many passengers as he can. His methods are state of the art, and it looks like he will be successful. Enter Brick Morgan, the stories hero.
The book is also about life "below decks" where the crew members live during the cruise. It is a hot, crowded, shabby and uncomfortable place that the passengers know nothing about. It is a place of sex, crime and intrigue. The crew members try to find their own places on those decks. They are a long way from home. I was astonished by the living conditions of the crew members. The book is also about the great machinery that drives the ship through the sea at 20+ knots for days on end.
While the passengers are sipping their Yellow Birds and other brilliant cocktails from smiling servers, the story of the ship is evolving around them. At the same time the terrorist is perfecting his plot.
I gave this book a 5 star rating. Mr. Anderson, the author. has done his research well. The book flows from chapter to chapter at a very fast pace. Even if you have never cruised, you should read this book.

Wonderful thriller of action on the high seas. Perfect blend of character development, cruise ship knowledge and current political realities. The hero Brick Morgan attracts the women while dealing with a terror threat that could really happen. This novel is a must for anyone who has been on a cruise. Hope to see Brick Morgan in Anderson's next novel.

Loved this story. Well written and full of suspense. Especially liked the references to local landmarks. As a classmate  of Burr's, I can appreciate the old haunts like Frisco Freeze, Cloverleaf Pizza, and the old Busch's drive in, just down the road from our Wilson High School. Our favorite milkshakes there were "Zombies" and "Graveyards". Yummy. A must read book and looking forward to his next mystery novel.

The Drummer melds multiple worlds together in a web of mystery and suspense. The moral dilemma faced by major characters exposes the frailness of humanity regardless of life's station. I admire the writer's ability to weave details of objects and characters. This forms a basis for captivating one's imagination and suspense. Together with the seamless melding of plot lines, the research of details creates a rich and enduring story.

January 30, 2013 The story runs real fast, easy to read and follow. Great little side notes of interesting and fun facts throughout the story leading to more interesting knowledge of the points being made. Just as you start to wonder what is going to happen next, the next chapter solves that mystery.  Some you see coming, others jump out and get ya!

The characters are all very believable... as in any of them good be true to life and living next door to you.  If you like a story line that is fun, interesting, fact filled and could happen in your town.... this book is for you. I am looking forward to author Burr Anderson's next adventure.
